Our Story
Canaan Winery
Canaan Winery’s mission is to craft premium-quality Chinese wine. Through passion, expertise, and skill, the winery showcases the individuality of its terroir by producing exceptional and distinctive wines.
An international team of experts in viticulture and enology—including winemakers, soil specialists, nursery specialists, and horticulturalists—guided the search for an ideal location for premium Chinese wine production. After a two-year evaluation of factors such as soil type, altitude, average annual precipitation, and meteorological data, Huailai County in Hebei Province was identified as the optimal site.
Canaan Winery’s estate vineyards are located on both the northern and southern sides of the Guanting Reservoir and comprise three parcels spanning Huailai County, with elevations ranging from 498 to 1,050 meters. This varied topography enables the cultivation of a diverse selection of grape varieties, supported by differences in soil composition, slope orientation, and microclimates across elevations.
After a decade-long pursuit of excellence, Canaan Winery aims to set the benchmark for Chinese fine wine. Committed to producing pure, elegant, and deeply expressive wines that reflect the distinctive character of the local terroir, the winery aspires to present the finest Chinese wines to both connoisseurs and casual enthusiasts.
Domaine Franco-Chinois
Domaine Franco-Chinois, originally conceived as a joint agricultural project between China and France, was first established as the Sino-French Cooperation Demonstration Vineyard in 2000. The estate officially adopted its present name, Domaine Franco-Chinois, in 2005.
Covering an area of 32.6 hectares, Domaine Franco-Chinois encompasses a vinification cellar, office building, and a wine-tasting area for guests. The cellar’s design and equipment—including automatic sulfur dioxide dispensers, floating lid wine tanks, as well as small fermentation tanks, and automatic cap pressing machines for individual processing of uncommon grape varieties—are all provided by France.
The architectural design of the Domaine Franco-Chinois complex incorporates the stately gray of the Great Wall and the red hues of the Forbidden City. The modern design concept achieves a seamless fusion of classical and contemporary elements as well as Eastern and Western cultures.
